For months now, the employees of Parapet, a Kenyan cleaning services company – have been undergoing untold misery after their employer decided to play cat and mouse with their hard earned salary.
The workers have gone for months without pay despite the fact that the company has been raking in millions in profits.
Below is the sad story of one of the company’s employees (identity withheld).
“I work for Parapet Cleaning Services as a steward/janitor/cleaner.
Below is the sad story of one of the company’s employees (identity withheld).
“I work for Parapet Cleaning Services as a steward/janitor/cleaner.
My service station is KAA. I have not been paid to date yet I wake up every day very early in the morning to work because I need the money.
Since November, the company has been paying us late yet they have money. Our salaries can even be delayed up to 15th yet we are expected to report to work.
You even wonder how we are supposed to raise bus fare in the first place.
Apart from that we have bills to pay i.e. rent, food, school fees and many more!
Even as we speak, we haven’t received our January salaries and no explanation is being given to us.
The worst part of it is that those people who clean the embassies are usually paid on time, I guess to cover their name but for us who work in other stations and malls like Sarit Centre, International House, JKIA, MPESA foundation Academy Thika etc, our salaries are always delayed.
And even when you receive your salary, it has so many deductions, some of which you are not even aware of.
For example, we can be told that our money has been deducted to pay loans in our Sacco yet since last year no money has been forwarded to the Sacco. This is simply an injustice!”
